GOLDEN GLOBES 2018- Stars Surprises and Sads

So with the Times Up protest in full swing (which props to everyone on this it went very well) The golden Globes had a completely different night to usual. In this post I'm breaking down the winners and losers and any surprises in my usual fashion to help you get your head around the event. Enjoy!

STARS

This is Me!!

Yes!!! I really hope The Greatest showman team atleast get a music nomination from the Oscars but this is awesome! It's such a great song and it pushed out the competition brilliantly! Actually the entire soundtrack is tremendous!

Sam rockwell & the Three Billboards crew

Finally Sam Rockwell gets attention he deserves. He constantly puts in amazing performances and I'm so glad he's finally getting his dues. Also seeing a Martin McDonagh film doing well is brilliant. I love In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths so I'm so excited for this. Also Frances Mc Freaking Dormand doing well is always a good thing.

Guillermo Del Toro

Yay!!! Finally this guy gets the love he deserves. He's an amazing director and it seems like he's always just so close to glory and he finally got it. I love so many of his films in particular both Hellboy films so I'm so glad he finally is getting recognition. 

Lady Bird

It's awesome to see a lady directed movie racking up the awards. So proud of Greta Gerwig and Saorise Ronan for this because this is so brilliant.

SURPRISES

The shocks of the night

No Love for Dunkirk

I'm really upset about this one. Nolan has done something truly amazing and the fact he had no recognition here is a real shame. There should have been something for Cillian Murphy. I really hope the other award ceremonies throw Nolan a bone on this one It's an amazing feat of filmmaking.

Armie hammer

Another one thought to be on the dead cert path by most people. Hammer's loss here doesn't really tell us much but it does seem like his victory could be a rockier road than some have predicted.

Feud: Bette and Joan

Honestly with the Golden Globes standard pattern and love of glitz and camp I was really expecting a win for this one. This could be signalling a change in the Globes general MO or they must have all really love The Handmaids Tale (didn't everyone!).

SADS

No Love for Young Pope

Kinda sad to see nothing for this one. Although it doesn't really need the awards as it has done so well for itself. But Jude Law always deserves credit,

Jason Bateman

Jason Bateman is tremendously underrated. He can do comedy and drama but seems to get very little recognition for this which is such a huge shame. Probably doesn't help this show is a netflix original and they don't seem to know how to market shows to the awards lot yet.

Hugh Jackman and the general Greatest Showman stuff

I loved this movie as I wrote about it in my review It's amazing fun and earnest in a way we don't see very often. But there seems to be a very bizarre disconnect from the reviews of critics to the reaction of normal people. I have no idea why this is happening and I think it's a huge shame. The film is so much better than it's being said to be

Anyway so that's it for the Golden Globes. Let's see what happens throughout awards season and see what changes.
