Rec It Wednesday: Movies about Movies

So this week we are hitting Movie-ception! Movies about movies!!! I don't know about you but I'm a sucker for these types of films as I always find them effortlessly interesting and fun. Now without further a do.....

1. You fancy a silent film
about the death of silent films

The Artist (2011, Michael Hazanavicius)
This little slice of perfection tackles a similar theme to another film on this list. The death of the silent film. George is a silent film darling at the end of there era and Peppy Miller is the girl he launches into talkie fame. George's slow decline into depression after the death of his career is truly heartbreaking and the end scene is exquisite. Well worth a watch.

2. You fancy a film about a fake film
whilst actually not being about the fake film at all

Argo (2012, Ben Affleck)
This thrilling biopic is all about a clever scheme to rescue trapped government workers. Setting up a fake film and documenting both the "films" staff an the trick itself. This may just be the best most thrilling film ever. So incredibly enjoyable and genuinely intriguing.

3, You fancy kids making movies
and monsters

Super 8 (2011, JJ Abrams)
Set in 1979 with a troupe of youngsters deciding to make their own film for a competition. However aliens are roaming about, the military is on their tail and all sorts of other things happen. This is probably one of my fave movies of all time well worth a watch.

4. You fancy a classic movie
about the beginning of Talkies

Singing in the Rain (1952, Stan Donen & Gene Kelly)
Well this is the classic example when you think of the theme isn't it? and if you say no, you are lying. Simple as. This fantastic and still amazing film has some of the best musical and dance numbers of all time and is one of the most visually appealing films ever. Make 'em Laugh is still on of the best songs ever btw.

5. You fancy Scorsese's best work
no exceptions

Hugo (2011, Martin Scorsese)
This charming flick is still one of the most beautiful things ever. Documenting the life of Hugo Cabret as he becomes involved in helping a young girl get her grandpa to remember his days as a film-maker. Heartbreaking beautiful and stunning this is the perfect family film.
