Rec It Wednesday: To be Young and Free

So yesterday after meeting a old friend then realising that youth is a strange fleeting thing and next year i'll be 20. I decided this week would be youth themed. There we go here's a existential crisis of a Rec it Wednesday this week!

1. You fancy a classic
about bunking off school no less

Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986, John Hughes)

Save Ferris! If there is one film that shows youth well, it's this John Hughes classic. Matthew Broderick plays the slightly irritating Ferris, who takes a day off school to plunder around the big city. It's a fantastic, film with a Charlie Sheen Cameo!

2. You fancy eternal youth
and natty jackets

The Lost Boys (1987, Joel Schumacher)

As you already, this is a pet favourite of mine and I have already included it multiple times and analysed it! It's still a fantastic film about youth though and certainly worth this list. Two brothers move to the murder capital of the world and meet the lost boys themselves. A group of vampiric youths that become a twisted version of what we imagined life would be like when we were kids. As I'm a self righteous cow here's my article from it.

3. You fancy a fun British movie
and Ricky Gervais

Cemetery Junction (2010, Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant)

This film has been pretty much forgotten for some time now. However it's a great film mainly about coming of age and realising how boring being stuck in a rut is. It's a good watch.

4.  You fancy mean girls with violence
and stupidly catchy songs

Heathers (1988, Michael Lehmann)
Heathers is a classic film and is up here in this list with 2 other cult classics. Apparently youth based films tend to be well loved, who knew? Anyway, this is just about perfect. Notable performances include Christian Slater as a character that could have very well inspired Nolan-verse joker and Winona Ryder.

5.You fancy bitter sweetness
with a beautiful soundtrack

Little Miss Sunshine (2006, Jonathan Dayton & Valerie Faris)
Few film leave me as emotional as Little Miss Sunshine. A story of a young girls journey to a beauty pageant. It's fun, tender, hilarious and just about perfect. The perfect film for any occasion.

So here we have it folks 5 youth based films. ENJOY

(CHRISTMAS NEWS)
