Rec It Wednesday: Fairytales are forever

To celebrate the release of the trailer for cinderella I thought this Rec it Wednesday how about a fairy tale theme. Not just for kids mind you. These are my top five weird fairytale based or straight adaptation films.

1. You fancy a mix of Frankenstein and Beauty and the Beast
which just so happens to be a Tim Burton classic

Edward Scissorhands (1990, Tim Burton)
A classic tale, that as I have already said, weaves Beauty and the beast with Frankenstein a delightful way. Edward's creator dies, without finishing him, leaving him with large bladed instruments instead of hands. He is found by the local Avon Lady and falls for her daughter (Winona Ryder). The town love him until they snap. It's heartbreaking and fun a classic Burton film right there.

2. You fancy a female fronted fairytale film
from the villains point of view

Maleficent (2014, Robert Stromberg)

By the power of Angelina Jolie's cheekbones! this film shows Sleeping beauty from the side of Maleficent herself and it is superb. A perfect film with amazing affects and a star turn from the lovely Sam Riley. This film is amazing and family friendly.

3. You fancy something a bit more…sinister
well then count your clockwork because we all know who's coming!

Pan's Labyrinth (2006, Guillermo Del Toro)
Yep thats right it has to be a Guillermo Del Toro flick! I was tempted to choose Hellboy 2 but this one fits the list better! This subtitled slice of lovely horribleness tells the talk of a young girl who in the time of civil war finds an ancient maze and other monsters appear.

4. You fancy a sumptuous, visually pleasing fairytale
with Lilly Collins

Mirror Mirror (2012, Tarsem Singh)
Now if anyone watches BBC Atlantis they may recognise a certain cutie in this film. Yes, Pythagoras (Robert Emms) graces our screens in this gorgeous film. Tarsem has made a miss before but this is most certainly a hit! It's gorgeous, visual pleasing and the cast is incredible. Definitely not one to be overlooked.

5.  You fancy a Classic 80's family film that breaks my heart
poor horse

The NeverEnding Story (1984, Wolfgang Petersen)
If I was forced to name one of my favourite films of all time. This would be on the list the story of a young boy who reads a book and gets entwined with the story of mythical lands and the hideous dark trying to destroy it all. He has to complete quests and fix the horrible mess that has begun.

So here we have ti five fantastical fairytale films to satisfy every taste. Enjoy!
